I sent this dutch oven as a gift. It was received damaged, the outer box was fine but the dutch oven's handles were broken. The replacement was sent out and received in good shape and was told there enjoying this oven.
I purchased this Dutch Oven when I read a review stating this comes from a little company in the USA. When I received the box it stated made in China. I called the company and they said that all their Enameled Dutch Ovens come from China. This is a big concern since there has been issues with China's lead addition to their paints. We've addressed this issue to some extent with Children toys manufactured in China but I am hesitant to believe that all their addition of lead in other products have been eliminated.
I absolutely LOVE this dutch oven - I want to cook everything in it!
It's beautiful and the food always comes out great. Great for those one pot meals that need to go from the stovetop to the oven.
I've never used Le Creuset or Staub, but I can't imagine what they have on this product. I'll be picking up the 3 quart version soon.
This is a must have for any kitchen. I have made several soups in it already and it has performed wonderfully.
I purchased this dutch oven for my daughter for Mother's Day in 2008. Within only a few months, the beautiful finish started to discolor, apparently from heat. Approximately 2 months ago, the top rim of the dutch oven started to rust. It was my understanding that an enameled dutch oven should last a good 10 years or more before undergoing any of these changes.
I read on this review site that these pots are not actually made in the USA as was represented on Amazon when I purchased it, but that they are actually made in China. Had I known these were made in China, I would never have bought the thing.

I was excited that this was 1/5 the price of Le Creuset or Staub, but in the end, I am convinced you get what you pay for. After my first use, the enamel on the edge of the lid chipped off permanently (about 1 cm square missing on the rim). There was also some enamel missing under the screw that holds the knob from inside. Of course, both of these chips made their way into what I was cooking and had to be fished out. Gross. Luckily I caught them before they were stirred in.
On my third use or so, when I went to clean the pot, there were some stains around the middle flat sides. These scrubbed off easily with some baking soda, as recommended by Lodge, so I was impressed by that.
Now, on the bottom, after about 5 uses, there are several 2-inch-long grey marks in the enamel that I cannot remove no matter how hard I try. I think the grey is the enamel showing the cast iron beneath. I have been VERY careful to use only plastic and wooden utensils with this pot, so I have no idea where they came from, but it appears they are here to stay.
I imagine these problems are only going to get worse and recur in other areas of the pot, meaning a much shorter life than a Le Creuset or Staub. Of course, it cooks evenly and is very heavy - it's just the enamel I have an issue with. Since this coating is the whole reason these pans cost a lot of money, I think it is a reasonable concern. I have a lot of faith in Lodge, but not Chinese manufacturing. I'm not sure what Lodge's oversight of the facility that produces these is. I also think they would exchange this pot if I called to complain, and I just might. I've had very good luck with their non-enamel cast iron products in the past.
More food for thought: I saw a VERY similar model (same red color) at Sam's Club for $40 in January. So, if you are determined to save money on enameled cast iron, you might want to shop around first.
This pot is absolutely great. It has fast become my favorite. Less liquid is required to cook and cleanup is easy.
Works great. Very heavy, but sturdy. Knob is heatproof only to 400 degrees but you can replace it with a cabinet knob.
This is the first cast iron enamel pot I own and I'm sold! I would've never spent the money on Le Creuset and am glad to find out it wouldn't have been necessary anyway.
This pot is ideal for soups, stews, even stir fries.. goes in the oven too and cleans up so nicely. I am amazed! The size is perfect, it handles very well, looks beautiful and really comes through with every meal I've used it for. If I had to pick one pot to keep forever, this would be it. Given how well it's held up, i'm pretty sure, it'll last me for decades...
This would be the perfect wedding gift, too.
