I love this product. Lodge makes really nice enameled covered cast iron pots. Great quality. Great size to cook in. It is a little bigger than the lodge 11" skillet and it is deeper as well. Great to cook in. I am completely happy with my purchase.
This a a beautiful cast iron, enameled dutch oven, but it is only rated to 400 F because of the knob on the lid???? My recipes that I bought this for call for a 450 F oven, so I have a choice of sending it back or experimenting to see how long the knob really lasts. I have not decided yet, but I am disappointed that I have to make this choice. I did not catch this when I ordered it as I was looking at several of them and they were rated at 500 F and I assumed. I know better, too, but I was in too much of a hurry as I want to make these recipes. Sigh! It is gorgeous though, so if you are a slow cooker, this is a good one. memline
I received my casserole dish last week and used it for the first time this week. It has certainly exceeded all my expectations. I used it to braise some chicken in the oven, and this pan is an oven in itself. Based on how it holds heat, I will consider lowering the temperature for my recipes or shortening the cooking times. But, it cooked my chicken more quickly than I anticipated.
If you are on the fence regarding purchasing this pan, get off the fence. I'm certain that Le Creuset could not have performed any better. You can't beat the price and it is a beautiful piece of cookware to look at. I am keeping it on my stove. What a great buy!!!
We replaced all of our non-stick cookware with Lodge cast iron and enameled cast iron. This is one of the pieces we purchased and I absolutely love it. I read over 75 reviews on Lodge cookware before I made my purchase and almost every review praised it over Le Cruset and some of the other more expensive enameled cast iron cookware. I am thankful to know I am not having toxins emitted into my food when I cook anymore and the performance of the cookware has been stellar. I would definitely recommed it to anyone looking for a less expensive alternative but, with the quality why pay more? There is a big difference in the amount of time it takes to cook because I used to use lots of high heat in my cooking, which I don't anymore because it will ruin the cookware. So, bringing things to a boil takes longer but, when the food is hot it stays hot. I don't mind the alterations I've needed to make when cooking with cast iron/enameled cast iron because it is so much better for the health of my family. I also have Pfaltzgraff Yorktowne dishes and the Carribean Blue looks as if it were made to go with my dishes. My husband even commented on how pretty the cookware looks and he doesn't normally pay attention to those kinds of details!
This is a quality beautiful product. Braising with this Dutch oven opens up a new world of cooking. Get the cookbook on braising by Molly Stevens and get ready to take some bows. It doubles as a serving dish. It's heavy but that's what makes it work. Buy this and the 5 qt. size. Also you will need the buffet casserole. Best $150 you will spend. It's a kitchen workhorse.
I love this pot. I had purchased the 6 qt dutch oven first and it was so great, I went back and bought two of these. I've made great scalloped potatoes with it, fried chicken in it and used it for all kinds of stove to table dishes. It braises well too. Heats up evenly, retains the heat well, looks good and will last forever. Great price too. Like someone else, I bought mine at Wal-Mart and I'm very happy with them.
This is a beautiful graduated blue color. It is heavy and a good heat conductor.
i just bought this for 13.00 dollars at walmart!!!! i have the 6 quart dutch oven and i love it, i thought it was a steal at 59.99 so when i saw this one i snatched it up.
It looks good, cooks well, and cleans up easily. What more could you ask for?
This pot is beautiful! The blue is vibrant. This is my third enamel cast iron piece and I just love how they brown meat perfectly and clean up great. I can brown 5 chicken breasts at once in this pot, it also reduces liquids quickly. This dish is built to last... heavy, sturdy construction. I will have it for my lifetime and I have no doubt that my children or even grandchildren will use it too!
